The World Veterinary Day is celebrated annually on the last Saturday of April. This year, it falls on 24 April. The World Veterinary Association and the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) comes up with a theme every year to create awareness of the importance of the Veterinary profession. A special day dedicated to acknowledging the works being done by veterinarians across the globe.

World Veterinary Day theme: Veterinarian response to the Covid-19 crisis.

The theme of World Veterinary Day 2021, is: “Veterinarian Response to the COVID-19 crisis.” The WVA created World Veterinary Day in 2000 is an annual celebration of the veterinary profession, taking place on the last Saturday of April.

To make the day more relatable and to promote the hard work of vets, a new theme is decided every year. In this regard, the World Veterinary Association (WVA) and Health for Animals have announced the theme for this year's World Veterinary Day.

The World Veterinary Day is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of veterinarians to the health of animals, people, and the environment and in sum, all efforts to achieve the agenda of “One Health" that literally means health for all and sustainability of all the creatures pans the globe.

The ongoing situations of COVID-19 pandemic, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) have changed so many lives and has significantly affected the global human and animal populations making the economy suffer and even further has raised so many questions on our preparations to deal with such situations as a whole.

World Veterinary Day is an annual event that has been established to highlight and promote the lifesaving work being performed by veterinarians all over the world. This day is observed in all the parts of the world with a new theme every year.

Currently, as per an estimation,  there are over 1.8 million vets across the world.

To observe the occasion of World Veterinary Day, a number of vet initiatives take place throughout the world and each one of them aims to raise awareness on the important role veterinarians play while fighting for a much more sustainable future for all animals.

In order to celebrate this day, a lot of activities are organized, including seminars, promotional events, health camps, vaccination drive and social or other activities in veterinary schools and hospitals worldwide.

A World Veterinary Day Award is organized every year, which is one of its kind The award is presented by the WVA and OIE and is awarded to a member of the association for their utmost contribution to the profession and society, selected by a high-level jury.

World Veterinary Day Theme and Award: This year the event will take place on the 24th of April 2021. World Veterinary Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of all veterinarians to animal well-being and society.
